Re: Dead 1.5" MP4 Player.

arish_06,

I just had a thought about your player.
I think it might be have a SIGMATEL or SUNPLUS solution board instead of an ACTIONS (s1mp3) board. These are different boards and the firmware is completely different! This might explain why you can't find a working firmware for your player.

Try downloading and using this tool: UDisk Checker to see what information comes up.

I have a Sunplus and Actions player.

It identifies the "Sunplus" one as "Sunplus".
It identifies the Actions (s1mp3) player as "USB 2.0 (FS) FLASH DISK (USB1.1)"

Let me know what yours come up as.....

arish_06 29th Apr 2006 5:37 pm

Thanks Binh, but I have to open my player up and short-circuit it again...I'll let you know when I get to it....but I am pretty sure it's gonna come up as "USB 2.0 (FS) FLASH DISK (USB1.1)" because that's what it came up as when windows first recognized it as a new hardware (when I bought it).

arish_06 29th Apr 2006 5:41 pm

Thanks for the link Ashwin but they only have firmwares for standard mp3 players (3.0.43, etc).

Maybe I should contact them and ask them for mp4 firmwares.

arish_06 4th May 2006 12:15 am

...I just found another link that might have some more mp3/mp4 tools and firmwares:

http://ygsm.gnway.net/ygsm/

There's a 3.2.16 version firmware --> to download, click on "107.zip" link.

...doesn't work with my player but i thought it could help others out.

arish_06 10th May 2006 8:12 pm

Binh, I tried the U Disk Checker and it gave me

"USB 2.0 (FS) FLASH DISK (USB1.1)"

..still no luck with firmware though

sak_cheegii 1st Jun 2006 8:11 pm

U all are trying dump.bin? if you backed up your firmware, maybe you need another firmware to start your mp player. you can update your mp with dump.bin, but you need full mp player booting. you can try updating with m600.bin then you disconnect your mp player. and connect again and wait, your mp plyer can connect to your computer as removal disk. finally you can update with your backed up dump.bin. It will work. if it is displays black or blue screen, it is not comfortable firmware to you mp player. Try shorting with memory chips if you cannot connect with recovery mode like ADFU mode for S1 mp players. then you can update with full FW. after that you can update dump.bin! Even it is not starting or turning on, or can't connect to the computer with recovery mode. there may have technical problem with your mp player. if it is happens, try changing Quarts with 24.576 Mhz or changing ATJ2085 chip or soldering again your mp players plugging! I found that, the mp players boot uploaded in ATJ2085 chip and firmware software uploaded in memory chip. There is many kind of chip of MPX players, like ATJ2085, ATJ2085P, ATJ2085W. ATJ2085W is often for MP4 players. Finally boot rom's version 3.0.00

Re: Dead 1.5" MP4 Player.

Hi!
I have a 2GB mp4 player like this:
mp4 player

I tried to upgrade the firmware, everything was OK, but until the upgrade i could format only to 1GB. The player works fine.
I put back the backup (original) firmware, but the player is already 1 GB. I try lot of software like (mp3util, HP flashformat, normal format, low level format etc.) and every software "say" it's only 1GB. Could you help me?
If i backup the original firmware, why 1 GB the capacity?????

Thanks.

arish_06 2nd Jun 2006 4:40 pm

Corrio, I am sort of having the same problem. My player, though not the same as yours, was originally 512 MB but after some bad upgrades and formats, it got down to 486 MB. Seems like formatting the player kills some of the memory.

Did your computer recognize it as 2GB before you tried to upgrade it? I think although formatting may cause some memory loss, it shouldn't kill 1GB of memory.

On second thoughts, maybe formatting doesn't kill memory but it's the loaded firmware on the player that takes up the memory...because I upgraded my dead player with another firmware (which by the way didn't recover it) and the memory got back to 493 MB.

Are you sure your player had 2GB ("Giga Bytes") and not 2Gb ("Giga bits")? If it was 2 Giga bits, than it means that your player has 8 times less memory that you thought it had. (1 Byte = 8 bits)

As far as I know, s1 mp3/mp4 players don't come with 2 Giga Bytes...maybe just up to 1 Giga Byte.

...But sadly I found this out when I had already placed an order for a 2GB mp4 player on ebay after I couldn't recover my old player. It turns out that it has 2Gb, not 2GB...so I got conned pretty bad.
2Gb = 256MB

I've had so much loss on mp3/mp4 players...eventually at some point you're gonna have trouble with firmware or memory or you're gonna realize that you've been conned.

The mpx players are good for the price you pay for them. Ok, they are no Nano's and iPod videos, but heck of a lot cheaper! Also you get the option of reskinning your player and customising it. Makes it abit more fun than just the 'dull' Nano's which cost a lot of money too.

So I decided that never will I buy any mp3/mp4 players in the future...and neither should anyone else!!!!!

HI! My mp4player has 2 Giga Byte capacity before i try upgrade the firmware. I coluld format to 2 Giga Byte, in the sys menu (info) show me 2000 M. I copied 1,5 Giga Byte data to it. Now only 996 M byte. :((
If i load back the origonal firmware why don't "reset" the memory capacity to 2 Giga Byte?????

Best to start a new thread with your post to keep it seperate from this one.

arish_06 5th Jun 2006 12:32 pm

Hey Binh,
Sorry if I was criticizing mp3/mp4 players a bit too harshly but it's just that I got so mad with my 512 MB dead player...but I do realize it was my own fault for screwing with the firmware.

My new 2 Giga bit player (exactly the same as my old one but with different firmware) works perfectly even though it has less memory (256 MB) and hasn't given me any trouble so far.

I agree that these players are a bargain to begin with and that they have more features than ipod, etc...

But the key to get a good deal is to buy from an honest and responsible seller! :D

Re: Dead 1.5" MP4 Player.

http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/6864/mp424fr.jpg

this is my player (F11-01GD) 1GB

i put in 3.5.35 FULL firmware to USB MASS

http://www.mytempdir.com/695819

then i put this firmware

http://www.mympxplayer.com/dload.php...ile&file_id=80

and now i have inverted screen and everyhing is backwards with 2 black lines
and im looking for F11-01GD 3.5.35 Firmware not 3.5
:)
thanks

arish_06 5th Jun 2006 1:36 pm

Hey Sherwinnie, have you tried all the firmwares from this website...if you do try, don't forget to backup your firmware even though it's inverted unless of course if it is exactly the same as the one from this site. At least your player's not completely dead! Do all the functions work properly?

What do you mean by "USB MASS"? Do you mean that you saved the firmware as a file on your player? If yes, than that shouldn't have to do anything with the firmware uploaded on the player.

I may be wrong, but if your orginal firmware was 3.5 something, then upgrading to something other than 3.5... will kill your player. That's what happended to mine when I tried to upgrade my 3.2.16 player with 3.5... firmwares.

Be very careful with the firmware you upgrade with..if you do. Trust me...you don't wanna go open up your dead player and short circuit and stuff...it's a hassle.

Hope this helps... :)

sherwinnie 5th Jun 2006 5:40 pm

@arish_06 its fully functionable and im able to drag and drop files into it lol. my player isnt dead or anything now lol because first of all i upgraded the wrong firmware for a mod idunno i didnt read anything about backing up so i never did :( the seller wants my player back but i cant give it back i already took it apart so many times and i cracked the back and melted the bottom of it :) haha so it took me 2 weeks to get it working as is right now i didnt like the flower background first of all in the begining haha so im waiting for someone to upload the same player with the correct version and then ill be happy and post it up everywhere :)

arish_06 5th Jun 2006 10:14 pm

Sherwinnie, if you really want to get your player to display proper colors, you can try the s1res utility from this website (page 2 of tool downloads).

It will be a long process though...first download the s1res utility, run it, then click file, open.

Locate the copy of the firmware (the one you say is inverted) and click open...or if you don't have a copy saved, extract it from your player or download it from this site again.

Now you should see a list on the left.
Click on "END.RES", then "icon". You should now see a list of pictures describing your ending sequence.

If the colors of the pictures are inverted, click "invert" on the top right corner of the s1res window. This should correct the color.

You'll have to do this for each single picture, including pictures in "LOGO.RES" and "U130.RES."

NOTE: if you the pictures do not appear inverted in the s1res utility, then there's nothing wrong with the firmware...it's probably that your player can't process the firmware correctly (i.e. it is not the proper firmware for your player).

If so, I suggest that you leave your player like that unless you're 100% sure you found a correct firmware.

By the way, you said your original firmware had a flower starting sequence...my dead player that looks the same as yours also had a flower sequence. Do you know if your original was 3.2.16?
And also, can you further describe your original firmware?

If our players have the same chip, then maybe the inverted firmware you're talking about can bring my dead player back to life.

Hope my suggestions for the s1res utility helps... :D

sherwinnie 6th Jun 2006 1:09 pm

Arish_06 it is my player that cant use the firmware fully. ummy original is 3.5.35 but i have a 3.2.16
http://s1mp3.org/files/firmware/fw_f...p680-cl-v11.7z

sherwinnie 6th Jun 2006 2:25 pm

tadad1 6th Jun 2006 5:21 pm

sherwinnie, that is great news, please let us know how you fixed it as it may be helpful to others with the same problem.

khang 6th Jun 2006 11:19 pm

My mp4 player is dead!

Nowadays, I have a problem with my Mp4 Player!
Some mp3 file is noted "format error" when played!
So, i formated my Mp4 player but it's still in problem!
Yesteday, I downloaded a new upgrading firmware and I upgraded my Mp4 player....but...after upgrading , it only appear a screen with sand glass (very long time...i has been waiting but I think....4ever)....
When I connect it to PC via USB port, is 't still recognized but Win explorer can't explore it...(no item)...
I try to upgrade again, but the Upgrading tools program notice that "It's on recover state...."

It's iMax, Wilson Co,Lmt, series ACST16D-13
its firmware is WS-3.3.13
I think maybe I upgraded with a wrong firmware.
Please help me!... :(

arish_06 6th Jun 2006 11:28 pm

.

arish_06 6th Jun 2006 11:40 pm

Hey, Khang
Do you have your original firmware backed up?
If yes, than try using it as a recovery firmware (you said that the upgrade utility comes up in recover state so just recover it with your original or any other compatible firmware).

By the way, is there something that caused the format error that you're describing...maybe unplugging it during file transfer, turning main switch off during interface with PC through usb, etc.

Did you try formatting with the disk tool in your mp4 player utilities? Also try the low format option in this utility.

Let me know if you still can't fix it.

khang 7th Jun 2006 12:24 am

Oh, this is really my careless, I didn't back up original firmware before upgrading!

Yes, I tried formatting but ....:(

I was read from our forum that It need to be disassembled and the chip should be reseted!

But I'm not a careful man, so I'm scared of my operation!

Now, my Mp4 player is still in dead screen with a sand glass!

Please help me in details, thanks arish_06!

tadad1 7th Jun 2006 12:50 am

khang,

the fact that your player is showing any signs of life is a good thing. Please give us more information on your player, what features does it have, is it 512mb, 1GB, 2GB, can you upload a picture of it. These are all things that will help people find some answers for you. It might also be a good idea to start a new post rather than add to another.

khang 7th Jun 2006 1:03 am

My Mp4 playper is 256MB, with some follow features!
+ Record
+ Mp3,mp4 player
+ Picture
+ E-book
+ FM radio
I can upload a picture of it.
I took some photographs about it (situation at present) but I don't know how to show them in our forum!

English is not my native language.
Anyway, thanks a lot tadad1!

tadad1 7th Jun 2006 1:14 am

khang, you can upload pictures of your player to the gallery
http://www.mympxplayer.com/album_cat.php?cat_id=5
there is an upload pic button at the top of the page.

khang 7th Jun 2006 1:27 am

I've just uploaded my picture of it with name: Khang's mp4 player!

http://www.mympxplayer.com/album_pic.php?pic_id=50

I'm looking forward to hearing any your advice !

Thanks!

tadad1 7th Jun 2006 1:57 am

khang, have seen your picture, try sending a Personal Message to "admin" as I think Binh sells players that look like yours. I can find no information on a firmware ws-3.3.13 however there is a firmware ws-3.2.13.

khang 7th Jun 2006 2:05 am

I'm sorry tadad1!

My original firmware is WS-3.2.13, not 3.3.13!
My player is still in the screen which you can see in the picture uploaded!

What should I do now!!!??? Do I have to disassemble it and reset the chip!?
Please give me a solution!

tadad1 7th Jun 2006 2:14 am

Khang, If your player is in recovery mode you should be able to apply a firmware to it. I do not think you need to try and reset the the chip at the moment.

Have a look at this,
http://www.mympxplayer.com/dload.php...ile&file_id=56
do the screen images match your players menus etc.

khang 7th Jun 2006 2:22 am

Ok, it is the screen of my player!
I am very happy when hearing that I don't have to take any internal operation!

What is the next step, tadad1!?

khang 7th Jun 2006 2:24 am

My player is always in this screen!
Please have a look!
http://www.mympxplayer.com/album_pic.php?pic_id=50

no response for any action!!
:(

tadad1 7th Jun 2006 2:29 am

khang, turn the player off at the switch then try connecting it to another usb port. Then turn it on.
Tell me what happens.

khang 7th Jun 2006 2:43 am

It is still no response! ... still in this screen!
When I connect it to USB port, PC recognize it but Win Explorer can not explore it (no item for this device)

tadad1 7th Jun 2006 2:46 am

khang, if you start MP3 Player Upgrade Tool while your player is connected to the PC what happens?

khang 7th Jun 2006 4:34 am

There is a message box: "It is recover state, and select the firmware file for recovering please"

If select OK, the open File windows will be involved for chosing the recover file!

In the left box about device firmware information , all fields are null!

In the right box about upgraded firmware information:
Device name: S1 Mp3 Player
Product : Wilson Co. Ltd
Version: 3.2.16

The Upgrade log box below:
dump.bin ....... failed

Maybe the upgrade file is not mismatched, because the version of my player is recorded before upgrading that is WS-3.2.13

Could you please send me the right upgrade file so that I can try!
Thanks tadad1!

khang 7th Jun 2006 4:39 am

When I chose Recover firmware button to start the recovering, there is a error message box:
"Read or write device information failed! Please exit the program and check if device in connecting!"

And the MP3 Player Upgrade Tool program is close when chosing OK!

tadad1 7th Jun 2006 4:51 am

Khang, there are 2 firmware on the bottom of this page which are 3.2.13 but they have different menu's you could try them, these are the only ones I have been able to find.

http://www.s1mp3.org/en/downloads_fw.php

If the upgrade tool is unable to access your player then you may have to open it and do a reset.

khang 7th Jun 2006 4:55 am

thanks a lot tadad1!
I will try!
